Lewis Hamilton & George Russell: 7-time champion addresses strained relationship concerns

Lewis Hamilton has sought to play down suggestions that he and George Russell will have a fractious relationship, saying that he and his Mercedes team will have learned a lot from previous issues with Nico Rosberg.

Mercedes have been the dominant force in Formula 1 in recent years and that has allowed Hamilton to rack up the championships and break a number of records.

Indeed, he's especially had it his own way inside the team in recent years with Valtteri Bottas not quite having the pace to take him on consistently every week, and certainly not to the extent that Rosberg challenged him.

Lewis and Nico obviously had their tense moments as team-mates and, with Russell now coming in for 2022, it'll be interesting to see how the team dynamic evolves once more.

Hamilton, though, feels as though his team will have learned from those previous tough times to avoid a repeat in the seasons ahead.

He said, when asked whether it'll work having the ambitious Russell alongside him:

"I don't know. History has shown that it can and history has shown that it can't.

"It is different in each team, it is ultimately hard to manage.

"It is quite a strange sport where it is a team sport but it is also an individual sport so you have got those two championships and individually you want to finish ahead but at the same time, you have got to do the job to get the team ahead.

"It is a difficult one to navigate through but I would like to think we have experienced it and learnt from it and therefore should be pretty well set moving forwards."
