Celtic should have appointed Fergal Harkin as their director of football as he would have played a key role in bolstering the Hoops' squad during the transfer window, according to journalist Stuart Hodge.
What has been happening behind the scenes at Celtic?
It was a summer of change at Parkhead, with Ange Postecoglou being installed as Celtic's new manager in June and a host of fresh faces heading to Glasgow ahead of the transfer window closing at the end of last month.
There were plenty of alterations behind the scenes as well, with new chief executive Dom McKay heading to Celtic three months ahead of schedule having initially been announced as the retiring Peter Lawwell's successor at the start of the year.
Reports suggested the Hoops were also close to appointing Manchester City partnerships and pathways manager Harkin as the club's director of football in May.
However, the move was called off as Harkin opted to remain at the Etihad Stadium instead.
Celtic have been plunged into turmoil in recent weeks as McKay dropped a bombshell by resigning from his chief executive role due to personal reasons earlier this month.
It has been reported that tension behind the scenes was a major reason for McKay choosing to walk away just 72 days into the job.
According to the Scottish Daily Mail, via 67 Hail Hail, chairman Ian Bankier is also expected to leave.
What has Stuart Hodge said about Harkin?
It proved to be a busy transfer window at Parkhead, with key players Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie departing for Crystal Palace and Bournemouth respectively.
While a host of new signings moved to the Scottish Premiership title challengers, journalist Hodge believes Celtic would have had an even better window if Harkin had been persuaded to head to the Hoops.

He told GMS: "There was talk of bringing in the likes of Fergal Harkin, who is the partnerships and pathways manager at Manchester City.
"He is really well connected, very well respected and would have got deals done that Celtic didn't manage to get done."

Reports suggest Matteo Tognozzi, David Webb, Neil McGuinness, Mark Burchill and John Kennedy were in contention for the job while McKay was still at the club.
McKay ruled out the possibility of former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan returning to Parkhead in the behind the scenes role.
However, Strachan did take on a three-month consultancy project in August, combining his new job with his work as Dundee's sporting director.
