Olympic gymnast Simone Biles admitted teammate Jade Carey would have 'kicked her ass' in the floor event at Tokyo 2020

Olympic gymnast Simone Biles admitted teammate Jade Carey would have 'kicked her ass' in the floor event at Tokyo 2020.

Biles was set to defend her Olympic floor title at Tokyo 2020, but withdrew from four events during the Games in order to "protect" her mental health.

Jade Carey stormed to victory in the floor instead, earning her first Olympic medal with a score of 14.366. Vanessa Ferrari of Italy finished as the silver medallist with 14.200.

Japan’s Mai Murakami and the Russian Olympic Committee’s Angelina Melnikova both finished on 14.166 and received a bronze medal.

The 24-year-old Biles has now admitted she would have unlikely earned a gold medal in the floor contest, even if she had competed.

In response to a tweet reading: "Jade would’ve won floor gold even with Simone in the final," Biles wrote: "I 100% agree with this. Jade had a phenomenal near perfect routine. She would’ve kicked my ass hahahaha.

"My jaw was on the floor!!! I’m so proud & happy for her!"

Social media users have praised Biles for her honesty, with one fan writing: "You cannot beat someone who is lifting others up. Simone Biles is 'there is room at the table for all of us. If you’re performing great I’m happy'

"She says, 'when Jade wins I win' – she’s built different. Her definition of winning is 'all of us win when you do your best work'"

Another wrote: "A true inspiration, and the role model we should all be looking to as women and aspiring our daughters to behave like. Gracious, kind, hard working and strong."

The 21-year-old Carey competed as an individual at Tokyo 2020. She booked her spot at the Games prior to the Olympic trials, having won both the floor exercise and vault in the individual event World Cup.

Carey is a reigning team world and Pan American champion, and a two-time world silver medallist in the vault. She also has a world silver medal from 2017 in the floor exercise and two Pan American gold medals in vault and floor.

Like Biles, Carey is capable of a number of astonishing skills, pulling off a stunning triple twisting double layout while training for the US Championships.

According to the New York Times, four-time Olympic champion Biles offered Carey words of advice as she aimed for gold in the floor event at Tokyo 2020. Carey had been shaken after failing to medal in the vault.

"Let it go and move on," Carey recalled Biles telling her. "It happened and you can’t do anything about it."

Biles went on to return to the stage at Tokyo 2020 and earn a bronze medal in the balance beam.
