Steve Robinson admits it hasn't always been easy, but the future is starting to look bright for Newcastle's latest boxing hopeful.

The unbeaten hard-hitting heavyweight, 30, hasn't fought since outpointing British journeyman Phil Williams to maintain his unbeaten record in February 2020 due to circumstances which were out of his control.

But Robinson - who bears an uncanny resemblance to Ivan Drago - will be back in action on October 19 in Tyneside on a bill headlined by Hughie Fury and Savannah Marshall.

Speaking exclusively to GIVEMESPORT, the Newcastle United fan admitted that he is feeling extra motivated after receiving a surprise call to train with Anthony Joshua for his botched fight against Tyson Fury

"This is what drives me forward," Robinson told GIVEMESPORT.

"I've got an amazing team around me, I've got sponsorships around me, I've got friends and family, fans, my coach, everyone around me keeps pushing me forward.

"Getting the call from the Anthony Joshua camp was unbelievable.

"It inspires you to keep pushing forward and continue what you are doing.

"I was there to replicate Tyson Fury, but unfortunately that fight fell through, and he's now fighting Usyk.

"Hopefully he'll blast Usyk out, then both sides will sort everything out, and I'll be a part of his camp again."

Steve Robinson has won all of his three bouts inside the boxing ring - with two of his victories coming by way of knockout

'I think every boxer has a bit of self doubt in their head'

With Joshua inviting him to train with him at Finchley ABC in Chipping Barnet, Robinson gained a fresh insight into the mindset of a man known to many as the unified heavyweight champion of the world.

The 30-year-old also shared some of the helpful tips he received from Joshua following their sparring sessions earlier this year.

"I think speaking to Anthony, he doubts himself," he revealed.

"Any boxer who doesn't doubt themselves, I don't believe it, I think every boxer has a bit of self doubt in their head.

"Anthony says it's something he suffers with, doubting himself and all that self doubt, so sometimes I wonder did I start too late?

"Speaking to Anthony, he reassured me, 'Listen, it's never too late, you didn't start too late.

"'Just keep doing what you're doing and there's no reason why you can't get to the top of the tree.'"

'Fighting at St. James' Park would be an absolute dream come true'

Robinson (3-0, 2 KOs) has previously only fought on small hall shows before, but still holds ambitions of fighting in front of a sold-out crowd at the home of his football team, Newcastle

"Oh listen, it's a dream of mine," he added.

"Not even headlining it, just fighting at St. James' Park would be an absolute dream come true.

"There's no reason why Sky Sports and BOXXER can't bring it to St. James' Park, with Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall, with Lewis Ritson, with myself, and with everyone else in Newcastle.

"There's no reason why we couldn't sell out St. James' Park, I really do believe that we could with the right amount of time and the right type of fights, I believe it could happen.

"To fight in front of 52,000 fans would just be unbelievable.

"I'm there at every game, I'll be there on Saturday, I remember being there as a kid dreaming and wishing that I'll walk out on to that field one day.

"I'd be happy to do it if it was cheerleading or dancing, never mind boxing just to be able to do it, but to be able to do that would be an unbelievable achievement."
