British tennis star Emma Raducanu looks set to return to the court at the Kremlin Cup next month, after her name was included on the entry list for the WTA 500 event.
The Kremlin Cup takes place in Moscow from October 18th until 24th. Raducanu’s name has been included in the main draw, alongside two-time Grand Slam winner Garbiñe Muguruza and Olympic champion Belinda Bencic.
Other seeds include Maria Sakkari, Angelique Kerber, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Elena Rybakina, Ons Jabeur, and Elise Mertens. Bianca Andreescu, the 2019 US Open winner, also looks set to play.
The 18-year-old Raducanu has been enjoying life since her astonishing US Open victory earlier this month, and decided to withdraw from next week’s Chicago Fall Tennis Classic.
She could well compete at Indian Wells next month, however, but it is yet to be seen whether she will be granted a main draw wildcard by tournament organisers.
As it stands, Raducanu is registered to contest the qualifying rounds from October 4th. Success in California could see the teenage talent play stars such as Ashleigh Barty, Aryna Sabalenka and Karolína Plíšková.
Raducanu shot to international stardom after winning the US Open this month, defeating Leylah Fernandez 6-4, 6-3 in the final at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
She became the first qualifier, male or female, to earn a Grand Slam title, and the first British woman to win a Grand Slam title since Virginia Wade in 1977. Raducanu made history in style, not dropping a single set on her way to victory.
The Briton has now risen to 23rd in the world and is enjoying the perks of sporting success, attending the Met Gala last week alongside Naomi Osaka, Serena and Venus Williams, and Maria Sharapova.
Raducanu is now back in England and recently rubbed shoulders with Olympic sprinter Dina Asher-Smith at a London Fashion Week event. She has also been announced as the newest ambassador for jewellery brand Tiffany & Co.
As part of the select group of British tennis players who have won a Grand Slam, Andy Murray revealed he would offer advice to Raducanu if she so wished, but he would not be "irritating" and offer his opinion unsolicited.
"What Emma has achieved is incredible and I hope she goes on to do more amazing things in the sport, and if she ever wants to talk, or her family, obviously I would always be there on the end of the phone," he said.
"But I don't want to be that guy after every loss or win just wading in and giving my opinion on what she should or shouldn't be doing differently, because it's not helpful."
