Arsenal made a summer move for Liverpool target Eden Hazard, the Lille midfielder's agent has confirmed.

The 20-year-old is regarded as possibly the hottest prospect currently operating on the continent and, hence, has frequently been linked with a move away from France.

According to The Mirror, Liverpool are keen on Hazard, but the interest of Arsenal and Real Madrid has been validated by the young Belgian's representative.

Arsenal are said to have made an attempt to bring Hazard to the Emirates Stadium as Arsene Wenger tried desperately to compensate for the losses of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.

Real, meanwhile, have also shown an interest in Hazard - with sporting director Zinedine Zidane trying his best to sign the playmaker.

"He has shown from the beginning of the season that he is able to play for any of the big clubs, including Real Madrid," said Hazard's agent John Bico.

"Eden has matured in every aspect. Perhaps next summer will be the moment to leave in search of the biggest challenge.

"Wenger wanted the player but Lille said no to the sale last summer. It's certain that Real Madrid have been watching.

"I don't think Zidane's presence will necessarily decide things. Zidane has always praised him but that, on its own, will not be sufficient."

Having been unable to sign Hazard during the transfer window, Arsenal instead had to settle for Mikel Arteta and Yossi Benayoun in terms of midfield reinforcements.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have been frequently linked with Hazard, and director of football Damien Comolli has been outed as an admirer of the youngster.

Hazard was also recently been given the seal of approval by Lille's on-loan Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole, who left Anfield on deadline day. The 29-year-old has tipped his new teammate to become one of the finest players in the world.
