With just days to go until the release of FIFA 22, we’ve now been given a much clearer idea of what to expect from this year’s edition of the game.

Along with an array of new features, which include groundbreaking HyperMotion technology and the ability to create your own club in career mode, there’s also the usual ratings refresh to get to grips with.

As always, many eyes will cast towards one of English football’s biggest rivalries when it comes to the new ratings. With both sides occupying the top two spots in the Premier League last season, there has been an unsurprising influx of improvements across both squads.

In fact, the two highest-rated players in the league ply their trade on either side of Manchester. Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Kevin De Bruyne lead the pack with 91 overall ratings. That does however signal a notable downgrade for Ronaldo, who has fallen behind Lionel Messi (93) and Robert Lewandowski (93).

Ederson is the only other name from the two clubs to feature in the Premier League's ten best players, with the Brazilian's rating sticking at a healthy 89.

The likes of Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire have been rewarded for their strong form in United's defence. Shaw, who has been a revelation over the last year, moves from 81 to 84, while the club's captain is up to 84 from 82.

Red Devils talisman, Bruno Fernandes, has also earned a small hike from 87 to 88. Fernandes netted 18 times in 37 appearances last campaign, and already has four goals to his name this season.

Ruben Dias' incredible start to life as a City player has seen him rise significantly in the rankings, making a huge jump from 81 to 87. The centre back's immense debut season saw him crowned the EA SPORTS Player of the Season last year, so his surge is no surprise.

Another big mover is Phil Foden, whose breakthrough campaign sees him go from 79 to 84, while summer signing Jack Grealish also earns an 84, up from 80.

Mason Greenwood's rating of 78 has been a particular point of contention among United fans. Given the 19-year-old's prolific record for the first team, which includes being one of just three teenagers to reach 30 goals for the club, the frustrations are somewhat understandable.
