Lewis Hamilton and Anthony Joshua star in the new FIFA 22 release and it’s as confusing and bizarre as you would imagine.

The two, Hamilton and AJ, are without a doubt amongst the biggest superstars in sport, so it would make sense to have them appear in one of the most popular video game franchises of all time, but football?

The game, as opposed to taking you straight to kick-off, makes you play through a short Volta walkthrough, in which you need to create your character and pick up some tickets for the Champions League semi-final between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes.

Before the game begins, your character will navigate around the stadium, brushing shoulders with other big names in football. This is where you’ll awkwardly meet Formula One star Hamilton and heavyweight champion AJ - who have clearly taken a night off from work to attend the fixture.

What’s even stranger is that the stars, as well as pop singer Dua Lipa, were playable characters in FIFA 21’s Volta mode.

Whilst preparing for his upcoming clash vs Ukrainian Oleksandr Uysk, Joshua faced Manchester United player Jesse Lingard for a game on FIFA. He also rattled the star, as well as some United fans, by singing Liverpool’s anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone” after beating the Mancunian.

The boxer even admitted to becoming obsessed with the video game at a stage in his career, so much so that he felt it was affecting his boxing and training progression.

He told The Sun: “I used to play FIFA until it affected boxing,

“I had to stop playing because it affected my sleep and recovery. I could stay up ‘till five in the morning playing it, get up at seven and train. That’s how mad it was, it wasn’t healthy.”

Here’s to hoping the 31-year-old has sorted his habits, as his fight this Saturday is set to be a thrilling one.
