Ferrari are bringing a new power unit development to their car at this weekend's Russian Grand Prix, though that will mean Charles Leclerc is going to get a grid penalty that will send him to the back of the pack.

The Scuderia can be relatively pleased with the way this season has gone as they've moved on quickly from a torrid 2020 with some very decent results along the way in Formula 1 in 2021.

Indeed, there's hope that that will set the foundations for a bright new era as 2022 arrives with its new rules and this weekend could be the first stepping stone towards that, with their upgraded power unit to be used at Sochi - one that the team says will help them 'gain experience for the 2022 car project.'

Clearly, Ferrari are looking ahead to next season and it'll be interesting to see how the new Prancing Horse goes at the Russian GP, though the engine change has incurred a penalty for Leclerc due to current regulations and limitations on numbers of engines being allowed to be used in one season.

Carlos Sainz in the other Ferrari, meanwhile, will remain at the command of Ferrari's current engine for 2021 - a b-spec version of the 2020 PU.
