Celtic transfer news: £5m signing "has not been a success" at Parkhead

Albian Ajeti hasn't been a success at Celtic, according to Journalist Stuart Hodge.

How has Ajeti performed at Celtic?

The Switzerland international arrived in Scotland following a spell at West Ham where he played 12 times and failed to score.

Ajeti had previously scored 43 goals for Basel, but his less than impressive period in east London meant he arrived at Celtic low on confidence.

He marked his debut with the winner against Dundee United nine days later, but his overall record is an uninspiring one of just nine goals in 39 games, and three of those have come in recent games against Ross County and Real Betis.

Ajeti's arrival has coincided with Celtic losing their grip in the Scottish Premiership title race and Hodge has been unimpressed with the striker, who cost £4.95m when he signed from West Ham last August, which puts him 11th on their all-time record arrival list.

What did Hodge say?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Celtic flung spaghetti at the wall, ended up with Ajeti. And two goals recently aside, he has not been a success at Celtic Park."

Is Hodge's criticism fair?

Definitely. Ajeti has often played second-fiddle to Odsonne Edouard, but when he has been given the chance, he often hasn't repaid the faith shown in him.

He did make a blistering start to his Celtic career by scoring five goals in his first six Scottish Premiership appearances, but since that run ended, he's generally looked quite ordinary.

Who scored Celtic's first goal of the season?

With Edouard finally gone, and Kyogo Furuhashi out injured for the remainder of the month, Ajeti has so far stepped up with three goals in as many matches, but he needs to keep scoring and help Celtic stay in touch with Rangers after three league defeats already this season.

Ajeti has shown that he's capable of scoring for the Scottish giants, but he must perform like he has done recently on a more consistent basis.
