Anthony Joshua looks fighting-fit and ready to defend his world titles against Oleksandr Usyk this weekend.

The former undefeated cruiserweight and Olympic champion Usyk will challenge Joshua for his WBO, IBA, WBA (super) and IBF belts this Saturday night at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

But the Ukrainian will have a hard task on his hands to defeat AJ, who looks to be in the shape for success coming into the bout.

Joshua, who stands at a towering 6’6” tall, seems to have got a lot leaner in anticipation of his slightly smaller opponent.

Usyk, who is nicknamed ‘The Cat’ for his fast footwork and relentless stamina, outlasted Derek Chisora in 2020, wearing down his much bigger opponent with his awkward fighting style and agility to win via unanimous decision.

Joshua seems to have been doing his homework, as he is a big fighter like Chisora, and while he has strength and reach on his side, he has now conditioned himself to outlast Usyk, who will try to wear down the British fighter over 12 rounds.

Speaking to talkSPORT, fight promoter and Matchroom Boxing chief Eddie Hearn was enamoured at AJ’s physique after watching Joshua complete a media sparring session on Tuesday.

Hearn said: “He looked like a racehorse. He’s in great condition. You’re going to get two guys in their absolute prime on Saturday night.

“I don’t think I’ve seen AJ so assured before a fight as he is now, which is ironic because, probably, mentally and technically, this is his toughest fight.

“He’s just comfortable with what he’s doing.

“He still knows it’s going to be a really tough fight, and that chills me out a bit because when he used to have those fights, I knew he wasn’t really ready. He wasn’t ready for Klitschko after 17 fights or whatever he was.”

Joshua, who signed a new career-long promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing this week, has always been a big fitness fanatic and looks to be in the shape of his life coming into this weekend’s bout.

But the fight will remain a tough challenge for Joshua, and he’ll need to be wary of his agile opponent, who has troubled many fighters in the past, including the great Wladimir Klitschko.
