Journalist Tom Barclay has heaped praise on Aston Villa summer signing Danny Ings.

What's the latest news involving Danny Ings?

Aston Villa signed the England international from Southampton this summer in a deal worth £25m, making him the fourth-biggest signing in the Birmingham club's history.

Ings is now reportedly the top earner at Villa Park with a £120k per-week wage package, and he's looked worthy of the investment so far.

As well as finding the net twice himself, Ings has laid on two assists in five Premier League outings for Villa.

And its his ability to create goals as well as take them that has caught the eye of journalist Barclay.

What as Tom Barclay said about Danny Ings?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Barclay claimed that Ings' genius lays not only in his finishing ability but also in the way that he can make goals happen with a moment of individual brilliance.

He told GMS: "He's so good. He just creates chances. The amount of games I watched where he scored a goal but it wasn't just finishing off a well-worked move, it was a bit of skill that created the chance because he's such a good player."

Has Ings created a problem for Dean Smith?

Maybe so, but it's the right kind of problem for Dean Smith to have.

Ollie Watkins bagged 14 goals and five assists in the Premier League last season during his debut campaign at Villa Park, and the Villans boss will be eager to utilise both Watkins and Ings in his starting XI as often as possible.

That's happened twice in the top flight this season - against Chelsea and Everton - however neither striker managed to get on the scoresheet in either fixture.

Ings did provide an assist versus the Toffees, though, and the more the pair play together, the more likely they are to kindle an effective partnership.

What is Ings' Premier League record?

It's easy to forget Ings is actually something of a Premier League veteran.

Throughout spells with Burnley, Liverpool, Southampton and now Aston Villa, the three-cap England man has made 145 Premier League appearances.

In that time he's notched 57 goals and 15 assists. That may not seem like the most outstanding record, but Ings has only actually played a full 90 minutes on 73 occasions.

Accordingly, Ings has averaged one goal involvement every 149 minutes in the Premier League - so slightly better than one in two games.

That's certainly not to be sniffed at and Smith will be hoping he can maintain or improve upon that average for the Villans.
