The BBC have announced they’ll show a live homecoming event for US Open champion Emma Raducanu this Friday.

The teenager became the first qualifier to ever win a Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows earlier this month and ended Britain’s 44-year wait for a women’s major winner.

Raducanu’s victory elevated her from 150th to 22nd in the world rankings, making her the new British number one.

Her success on the court has also led to numerous opportunities in the outside world. Last week, the Brit attended the renowned Met Gala, while on Monday, the 18-year-old was in attendance at a London Fashion Week event, hosted by Chanel.

On Instagram, the teenage sensation has now accumulated more than two million followers, meaning she is now the fifth most-followed active female tennis player on the social media platform.

In her latest post, Raducanu revealed she had signed a deal with jeweller Tiffany as a brand ambassador –– joining the likes of Beyonce and Jay-Z.

Fellow British US Open champions Joe Salisbury, Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett will also be present at the event.

Salisbury became the Brit to win two doubles titles at the same Grand Slam in the Open Era by winning both the mixed doubles and the men’s doubles in New York.

Meanwhile, Reid and Hewett became the first British duo to complete the Golden Slam, with victory in the men’s wheelchair doubles final.

Emma Raducanu

While Salisbury, Reid and Hewett have all enjoyed success in doubles, Raducanu remains the first British winner of a major singles title since Sir Andy Murray won his second Wimbledon title in 2016.

The former British number one created history of his own at the US Open in 2012, becoming the first male player from the UK to win a Grand Slam for 76 years.

The three-time major winner promised to “always be there on the end of the phone” for Raducanu if needed but vowed not to pester her with advice.

Raducanu has pulled out her latest tournament at the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic following her heroics and it’s unclear at this stage when she’ll next compete again.

BBC’s programme will be available to watch on iPlayer, Red Button and online from 12:30 BST, with a repeat on BBC Two from 15:15.
