Former goalkeeper Robert Green enjoyed a fine career in professional football. In a career spanning 20 years, the Chertsey-born shot-stopper played for Norwich City, West Ham, Queens Park Rangers, Leeds United and Huddersfield Town before ending his career in 2019 following a surprise season with Chelsea.Green also played for England 12 times, although his international career is sadly best remembered for a mistake at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.Clint Dempsey’s speculative shot from range caught out Green, who failed to grasp the ball with both hands before it rolled over the goal-line.It’s unclear whether the little finger on Green’s right hand was already damaged by this point. But 10 years later, the goalkeeper stunned former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, along with viewers, by revealing his disfigured digit on live TV.p1fgbt5e3u291hd4km4eamld6b.jpgHasselbaink, who boasted one of the hardest shots in Premier League history, denied that he was responsible for Green’s bent finger. As Green held his hand up to the camera, his former teammate Bobby Zamora joked: “Are you pointing at me? Stop pointing at me!”p1fgbt6og6184em3qga7cd1fhad.jpgWatch the clip here:

How did Rob Green injure his finger?

How did it happen?

Green said: “Over a number of years it’s decided to gradually die and that’s where it’s ended up.”

He then joked: “That’s from one of Jimmy’s free-kicks about 15 years ago!”

Hasselbaink added: “That is dedication!”

You’re not wrong there, Jimmy.

Green first revealed his bent finger on Football Focus back in 2015. “That’s what twenty years of goalkeeping does,” he said.

It was also revealed that Green had special gloves designed to accommodate his peculiar pinky during the final years of his playing career.
