Emma Raducanu was joined by Kate Middleton for a spot of tennis on Friday afternoon during a homecoming event following the 18-year-old's success at the US Open.

The Duchess of Cambridge attended the event to congratulate Raducanu, who won her first ever Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows earlier this month.

Men's doubles champion Joe Salisbury was also present, as well as men's wheelchair doubles winners Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett – who all triumphed in New York.

The Homecoming was hosted by Lawn Tennis Association Youth – a programme for which the duchess is a patron. LTA Youth aims to inspire children and young adults to get involved in tennis.

The Duchess of Cambridge joined Raducanu for a quick game of doubles and the US Open champion admitted she was "very impressed" by her new partner's skill on the court.

"Her forehand is incredible. It was a lot of fun to play tennis with the duchess," Raducanu told ITV.

The teenager has a lot to celebrate after making history at the US Open.

Her win over fellow youngster Leylah Fernandez made Raducanu the first British woman to win a major title since Virginia Wade 44 years ago.

She also became the first ever qualifier, male or female, to go on and win a Grand Slam. Raducanu played three qualifying matches before entering the tournament's main draw, where she didn't drop a single set in the lead up to her victory.

Since her inspiring win, she has attended the Met Gala and signed a partnership with Tiffany & Co. – becoming their newest brand ambassador.

Raducanu has also received an abundance of praise from all over the world and has stolen the hearts of her nation.

The official Twitter account for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge posted a photo of the duchess alongside Raducanu, Salisbury, Reid, and Hewett after the event.

"In the presence of champions," the caption reads. "We are all so proud of you!"

Raducanu's next expected appearance on court will be in the Kremlin Cup in Moscow next month.
