Newcastle World journalist Liam Kennedy has claimed that Steve Bruce still has the backing of the club's board.
How have Newcastle started the 2021/22 season?
The Magpies have had a difficult start to the season, picking up just two points from their opening five league games.
They have managed to grind out creditable draws against Southampton and Leeds, but they have already conceded 13 goals, with eight of those coming at home to West Ham and away at Manchester United.
Their winless run has seen them slip into the relegation zone, and they are currently one point adrift of safety.
What did Kennedy say about Bruce's future at the club?
Kennedy has admitted that Bruce is under pressure from the team's supporters to start winning some games, but believes that the 60-year-old still has the backing of the club's board, especially as he has previously come through some even tougher moments since taking charge of Newcastle back in 2019.
When asked by GIVEMESPORT whether Bruce's job was at risk, Kennedy responded: “That’s the big question, isn’t it? He is under sustained pressure from the fans at the moment but my understanding on the thinking at the top of the club is that he is the man for the job still. They stood by him in a sequence, I think it was only two wins in 21 between December and around February, March time last year. It was quite an incredible run of games, and they stood by him then.”

Could Newcastle's board lose patience with Bruce soon?
Bruce may have the club's hierarchy on his side for now, but that may change if his side keep losing in the top-flight.
Looking at Newcastle's fixture list, the next two matches could go a long way to determining Bruce's future on Tyneside.
Newcastle travel to Vicarage Road to take on Watford tomorrow. The Hornets are a newly-promoted club who may be involved in a relegation battle this year, so Newcastle really need to pick up a positive result from this clash.
The North-East club will then face Wolves at the start of next month. Bruno Lage's men sit just a single point above them in the table right now, and this is exactly the type of match that Newcastle should be targeting to pick up three points from.
If Bruce's team lose both of these games, they will enter the next international break in the bottom three, and the club's board may decide that is the right moment to replace him.
