Micah Richards is one of the most popular pundits on British television - and for good reason. The 33-year-old has been described as a breath of fresh air by many viewers since becoming a regular on Sky Sports, BBC Sport and CBS Sports a couple of years ago.Richards brings humour, energy and fun to a profession that can sometimes be a little *too* serious. The retired defender has also formed some incredible on-screen relationships with various pundits, including Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher.p1fgdr89sg72imog72b15o54c0j.jpg

When Micah Richards shut down Sol Campbell

However, let’s cast out minds back to a rather amusing incident involving Richards and Sol Campbell from the 2020-21 season.

Back in October 2020, Manchester City sealed a 1-0 victory over Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.

City secured all three points thanks to Raheem Sterling’s winning goal midway through the first half.

Phil Foden cut inside Hector Bellerin on his right foot and forced a save from Bernd Leno, who could only parry the ball into Sterling’s path.

Campbell, the former Arsenal centre-back, blasted Bellerin’s defending and questioned why he didn’t show Foden on to his ‘weaker’ left foot.

The ex-England international was somehow totally unaware that Foden was, in fact, left-footed.

“For me, as a manager, I’d say look: ‘If he does you outside... you know [Foden’s] right-footed as well. You [Bellerin] should know that already, who is right and left-footed.

"Once those guys get into your zone… as a defender you should know: left or right, or maybe both."

Richards had enough at this point and had to intervene, much to the relief of viewers.

“Foden’s left,” the former City star said bluntly while sounding a little baffled.

Pretty awkward. You had a bit of a ‘mare there, Sol!

It’s certainly not what you’d expect from a man who described himself as ‘one of the greatest minds in football’ only a couple of years earlier.

“I'm intelligent enough, it's not like I played on a fox and dog pitch all my life," Campbell said after being rejected by Oxford for the manager role in 2018, per The Independent.

"I can't believe some people, I'm one of the greatest minds in football and I'm being wasted because of a lack of experience or 'maybe he talks his mind too much'."

Campbell previously managed Macclesfield Town and Southend United.
