Hansen expects Anfield cauldron

Liverpool great Alan Hansen is hoping a wall of noise at Anfield for the visit of Manchester United will inspire them to victory over their greatest rivals this weekend.

United travel to Merseyside on Saturday for the first time since they confirmed their 19th league title, and simultaneously overhauled Liverpool as the most dominant team in English league football.

Given the feat, the Reds will be on a revenge mission this weekend, and Hansen is expecting a roaring crowd to welcome the Barclays Premier League champions.

"Another potentially important factor is the Anfield atmosphere on Saturday," Hansen said.

"For me, the atmosphere at the Champions League matches, when we were in it, have been different to the atmosphere at Premier League games at Anfield.

"Because Liverpool fans had been waiting for such a long time for such big games the noise levels were cranked up and it made a difference.

"I don't think Manchester United's players will be frightened by the noise levels on Saturday, but Liverpool's players could be inspired by it.

"If you're playing in that sort of atmosphere and you know the crowd are right behind you it definitely gives you an edge.

"On Saturday, come 12.45pm, Kenny would love the crowd to be in full voice and for Anfield to be bouncing because when it is there is simply nowhere better."

Meanwhile, Dalglish has stoked the fire ahead of the showdown, claiming the match against United isn't Liverpool's biggest of the season.

Sir Alex Ferguson has regularly mentioned the clash with the Reds as being the most important on United's calendar, but Dalglish has played down the hype, comparing it to any other league game.

"People say this is the biggest game of the season but I don't look at any game as being big or small," he said.

"It's another game, another three points for a win."

The only difference this time is the fact that, if we win, we will move a bit closer to them.

"It's an opportunity to help yourself and dent their chances at the same time."
