Former WWE Superstar Chris Jericho recently discussed the creation of the Elimination Chamber concept, and how it nearly ended up being a return to WarGames.

Adam Cole appeared on the latest episode of Jericho's Talk Is Jericho podcast, and the two men talked about several major matches from their careers.

One of the matches discussed was the WarGames concept, which Cole was part of during his time in NXT with Undisputed Era.

Jericho revealed to Cole that he actually watched back the NXT WarGames match to get ideas or the AEW Blood & Guts match between The Inner Circle and The Pinnacle:

“When we had our Blood & Guts WarGames match, I watched your WarGames match just to try and get some ideas of a modern day version. You can watch the ones from the ’80s, which is one mindset, then I watched your guys’ version, great job, great match."

Jericho would then reveal that WarGames was originally going to be brought back to WWE far sooner, but the decision was made to have a new concept created, namely Elimination Chamber.

"Just a little tidbit, Elimination Chamber was originally going to be WarGames, but Vince didn’t want to do WarGames because he said it was too WCW, so then we created our own. Hunter (Triple H) always wanted to do WarGames, and then he brings it to NXT and there you go.”
