Liverpool travelled to Brentford on Saturday with the chance to open up some clear air at the top of the Premier League.

After Chelsea were beaten by Manchester City and Manchester United slumped to a dramatic loss against Aston Villa, Liverpool's trip to the Premier League newbies took on added significance.

However, Brentford were in no mood to be handing out favours and gave as good as they got on the night.

In front of a raucous home crowd, the Bees took it to Liverpool, eventually taking the lead thanks to a charming free-kick routine that caught Liverpool cold.

That lead would only be short-lived, unfortunately as the Reds (clad in yellow) hauled themselves back into the clash thanks to a tidy header from Diogo Jota.

Jurgen Klopp's side then looked to be asserting themselves on the clash and when Mohamed Salah ghosted in at the back post to slot home from Fabinho sumptuous ball, it looked like the Reds were on target for another three point.

Brentford just would not go away though and, as chaos reigned in the Liverpool rearguard, Vitaly Janelt took advantage in the melee to nod home an equaliser.

Unfortunately for the home side, this Liverpool team has made a habit of never going away under Klopp, and that was exactly the case once again as Curtis Jones' thunderbolt proved.

The youngster struck a rasping shot from distance that, thanks to a slight deflection, cannoned into the Brentford net.

Salah had a guilt-edged chance to kill off the game only minutes later when clean through but, criminally, his dinked effort floated harmlessly over the bar.

That miss would soon come back to haunt him as, once again, Brentford landed a brutal punch on one of the big boys in the 82nd minute.

Yoane Visser was on hand to clip home after yet more win pinball in the Liverpool goalmouth, sending the fans inside the stadium into a frenzy.

Ultimately, it would end 3-3 after as Liverpool survived some last minute flutters.

It proved to be one of the games of the season as Liverpool go one point clear atop the Premier League standings.
