Journalist Tom Barclay was surprised that Manchester City didn't try and sign Danny Ings this summer.
What happened with Ings?
With just 12 months left on his Southampton contract, the striker made his feelings clear about wanting to leave the club and has previously stated his desire to play in the Champions League.
One of the English sides playing in Europe's elite competition was City, who were in desperate need of bringing in a striker this summer after Sergio Aguero left for Barcelona.
But City never made a genuine attempt to try and sign Ings, who was available at a cut-price with his deal on the South Coast running out next summer.
According to the Telegraph, Nuno Espirito Santo was interested in bringing the Englishman to north London to play alongside Harry Kane.
However, in what proved one of the more surprise signings in recent years, Ings ended up joining for Villa for £25m in a deal that hadn't been reported by a single media outlet.
Meanwhile, City went into the season without a recognised striker, and with the Harry Kane deal always looking tricky, Barclay was surprised that Guardiola's men didn't consider Ings as an option.

What did Barclay say?
He told GIVEMESPORT: "Danny Ings is top quality and I'm almost surprised that he didn't get a bigger move than Aston Villa, as exciting as a project as Villa is. You look at Man City, I'm not saying he would be a regular starter, but he would probably fare quite well if they didn't get Harry Kane."
How have City fared?
City's decision to not sign a striker looked a strange one after they were beaten 1-0 in the Charity Shield and their Premier League opener at Tottenham.
However, Guardiola's side scored 23 goals in their next six matches in all competitions and have already had 14 different goalscorers this term.
City's failure to sign a striker might come back to bite them later on in the campaign, but if their array of attacking players continue to chip in, it could still be another successful season.
