Newcastle United forward Allan Saint-Maximin would flourish under a manager like Jurgen Klopp, according to journalist Tom Barclay.

What did Barclay say about Saint-Maximin?

Barclay believes that Saint-Maximin would benefit from playing for a top club who dominate possession. He also claimed that working with Klopp could help the Frenchman get even better going forward, but stopped short of saying that he'd be perfect for Liverpool, as he noted that Saint-Maximin is not known for his work rate off the ball.

Speaking about the 24-year-old to GIVEMESPORT, Barclay said: “We’re talking about a player that, if you got Jurgen Klopp to harness what he can do well and work on the stuff that maybe he doesn’t do as well. Maybe that wouldn’t work there because you think of how much work the likes of Sadio Mane puts in, you don’t really think of that when you think of Saint-Maximin, but, doesn’t mean that players can’t improve on that side of the game.

“And put them in a better team with better players, he’s going to get the ball more often. He could be absolutely devastating.”

Is Saint-Maximin nearing the exit door at Newcastle?

Right now, Saint-Maximin is not heavily linked with a move away from St James' Park. However, the early weeks of the campaign have suggested that Newcastle may face a relegation battle this year, while it seems that the £72,000-a-week star is good enough to be playing for a team higher up the table.

He was particularly impressive in Newcastle's recent home match against Leeds when he scored a goal and managed four shots on target on his way to a WhoScored match rating of 7.92. If he keeps performing at that level, it surely won't be long before some of the biggest clubs in the country make a move for him.

Would he be a good fit for Liverpool?

Liverpool have been able to count on two exceptional wingers in recent years in Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, who have both hit a century of goals for the Reds. Meanwhile, Saint-Maximin only managed three goals in each of his first two Premier League seasons at Newcastle, so has a long way to go to match the goalscoring exploits of the Liverpool duo.

Still, he seems to have taken his game to a new level altogether this term, with his express pace and trickery on the ball making him a joy to watch in an otherwise underwhelming Newcastle team.

He is five years younger than Salah and Mane, and it would be wise for Liverpool to start looking for potential replacements in the coming months as the pair cannot go on forever.

Saint-Maximin appears to have huge potential, and with Klopp having a good track record of getting the best out of his attacking players, he could be an excellent fit for the Merseyside club.
