The 34-year-old Ukraine southpaw believes that his fight with Anthony Joshua was not the hardest one he has come across.

After becoming the undisputed king of the cruiserweight division, Usyk set his eyes on the heavyweight title.

For that title, he faced Joshua (the previous unified heavyweight champion) at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last week.

“The plan was just to walk in, see, and start, so we went in, saw and started”, stated Usyk.

That worked for them. Joshua, the physically stronger amongst the two was dominated by Usyk since the first round.

Despite a few good rounds by Joshua, the final onslaught by Usyk proved costly for Joshua as he lost to a score of 117–112, 116–112 and 115–113, Usyk has ultimately crowned the new heavyweight champion.

The onslaught on Joshua was mentioned by Usyk in his post-fight press conference Usyk mentioned

“In the 12th my corner said ‘speed up’ so I did and then they said ‘and the new’.

“I tried to speed up and punched him a couple of times but I was losing my rhythm and my corner told me to slow down and throw my jab more because if I did not keep throwing my jab I would lose my rhythm.”

Furthermore, he then went on to say that it was indeed the biggest fight of his career “This is the biggest fight in my career but it was not my hardest. I think that is in my future”, said the 34-year-old.

Usyk also went on to say that he would honour the re-match clause that is given in their contract.

Usyk said, “I love challenges but we have a rematch clause in the contract with Anthony Joshua and we will honour that”.

With a rematch looking evident soon, the Ukraine sensation also expressed his desire to play the rematch in front of his home crowd. “I would love to have the rematch in the Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kyiv”- stated Usyk.

But the chance of that happening seems to be very slim.

The likely option for this match to take place seems to be either in the UK or Saudi Arabia. This would prompt the event to take place on the British premier TV.

Although victorious, Usyk seems even more determined to defend his title against Joshua in his possible rematch, as he stated “Anthony Joshua is our next opponent in our minds.”
