John Cena is one busy boy at the moment, as the former WWE Champion has landed himself a role in another movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, John Cena has been cast in a new political thriller entitled 'The Independent'.

Cena will star in the film alongside Kathy Bates, Brian Cox and Jodie Turner-Smith, with the Emmy-nominated Amy Rice set to direct the movie.

Upcoming political thriller The Independent has added a second duo of big name stars. John Cena and Kathy Bates have joined the feature, first announced by The Hollywood Reporter earlier this month from Toronto, and will star alongside Jodie Turner-Smith (After Yang, Queen & Slim) and Brian Cox (Succession, Manhunter).

The Independent focuses on the final few weeks of the presidential election, with a journalist working to uncover a conspiracy that puts the outcome of the election at risk.

The report notes that John Cena will play the role of the independent presidential candidate, while Kathy Bates will star as the first female presidential candidate.

This comes just a few months after John Cena's Fast and Furious 9 and Suicide Squad movies were released, both of which performed rather well at the box office.

John Cena has just come off a main event run with WWE, returning to the company at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view on July 18.

Cena appeared on several shows for WWE throughout July and August, culminating in the Hollywood megastar losing to Universal Champion Roman Reigns at SummerSlam last month.

Cena also wrestled for the live crowd at Madison Square Garden after the September 10 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, but didn't appear on the live broadcast.

As of right now, there is no word on when we can expect to see John Cena back in WWE, but considering how busy his movie schedule is, that may not be anytime soon.
