Anthony Joshua fell to a shocking defeat on Saturday as Oleksandr Usyk claimed a unanimous decision victory over the Brit, which means the Ukrainian now holds the WBA, IBF and WBO world heavyweight titles.

In addition to losing his belts, AJ has also lost the opportunity to fight Tyson Fury in what was set to be one of the most highly anticipated undisputed bouts in recent boxing history.

Fury was supposed to take on Joshua back in August of this year, but due to Deontay Wilder exercising his right to a trilogy with the Gypsy King, as well as Usyk coming forward as a mandatory challenger for AJ, the Battle of Britain was put on hold.

The fate of Fury vs Joshua now hangs in the balance as there is no undisputed champion currently on the line.

Frank Warren, who is Fury’s UK co-promoter, told talkSPORT exactly how he and his client reacted to AJ’s defeat:

“He [Joshua] just wasn’t doing what you’d think a bigger guy would do,” Warren said on talkSPORT Fight Night.

“I spoke to Tyson during the fight and we were both of the same opinion.

“All Tyson could see was a massive big fight going down the drain, which is what happened. You would’ve thought the bigger man would have imposed himself. He just did not do it and didn’t do it in any part of the fight.

“Not in any part of that fight was he dominant. All Usyk was doing was just totally outboxing him… I said to Tyson, ‘Can you imagine if you were in there with him, how long that would’ve lasted?

“Tyson’s got as fast hands as Usyk’s got, as good a boxing brain as Usyk’s got and as good footwork as Usyk’s got.

“But he’s a bigger puncher and he’s got a better chin.”

Fury and Wilder’s trilogy bout is set to take place on October 3 in Las Vegas.

Given the events that have transpired over this past weekend, Usyk vs Fury may well be the undisputed fight that ultimately takes place. Watch this space…
