Floyd Mayweather absolutely schooled Canelo Alvarez as viral footage re-emerges

Canelo Alvarez is showing no signs of slowing down, with the Mexican now looking to go 16 matches unbeaten when he takes on Caleb Plant in November.

Before his undefeated run began though, Alvarez was beaten by the only man who has been able to oust him over the course of his career, Floyd Mayweather.

On September 14, 2013, Mayweather and Alvarez squared off in Las Vegas as the Mexican aimed to retain the WBC light middleweight title for the seventh consecutive fight.

Yet, after 12 rounds, it was Mayweather who inflicted the Mexican’s first and only career loss via a majority decision.

In a video posted by BroBible on Twitter, the 'Money Man' is seen dominating his opponent, which goes to show just how good the American was on his day.

One user replied to the tweet saying: “Mayweather picked Canelo apart. It’s weird seeing Canelo getting boxed on like that."

Another said: “Canelo is a great fighter. Never forget what Floyd Mayweather did to him."

While Alvarez may have been in the early stages on his road to stardom, he had already established himself in the boxing world as he came into the Mayweather fight with 42 wins and a draw out of 43.

The question that is surely still on all boxing fans’ minds is whether 2021 Alvarez would beat Mayweather in his prime.

For now though, let’s see if the Mexican can continue his fine form and defend his WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight titles in just over a month’s time.

If Alvarez beats his American counterpart, he will become the undisputed super middleweight champion of the world as Plant is the current holder of the IBF title, the fourth and final piece of Alvarez’s quest to eternal glory.

The bout is scheduled for Saturday, November 6 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the same venue where the Mayweather fight took place.
