Wigan midfielder James McCarthy faces a late fitness test after a bout of tonsilitis, but Hugo Rodallega will definitely miss out.

Latics boss Roberto Martinez welcomes back Steve Gohouri from suspension, and summer signing Albert Crusat also returns from injury.

Meanwhile, Bolton goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen returns to the first-team fold after missing the 5-1 defeat to Chelsea with a thigh problem, and Gael Kakuta is also available having been ineligible to play against his parent club.

Trotters boss Owen Coyle can also call on the services of Ivan Klasnic and David Wheater having served their respective suspensions.

Coyle won't rush injured Trotters stars

During their battle with a lengthy injury list, Bolton have taken just three points from their opening seven matches to slump to the foot of the Barclays Premier League table, but Owen Coyle insists he will not risk rushing players back in order to stem their poor run of form.

The Trotters have been without the likes of Stuart Holden, Chung-Yong Lee, Sam Ricketts, and Marcos Alonso due to long-standing problems, which has contributed to the side's run of six consecutive league defeats.

"They are certainly improving," said Coyle. "That augers well, but we can't be rushing anybody back.

"We have to make sure first and foremost that when they come back it is the right time for them to continue their careers, as much as we would love them fit and available now."

Jussi Jaaskelainen also missed the last Reebok Stadium outing, as Bolton fell to a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea - a baptism of fire for reserve goalkeeper Adam Bogdan, who made a couple of glaring errors.

"Young Adam, as we know, made a couple of mistakes in the Chelsea game," Coyle continued. "But he'll be a top goalkeeper in time.

"That is the thing about a goalkeeper. You make a mistake and invariably it's a goal and you have to get through that, so you have to show mental strength. Jussi will help Adam with that as well."
