Zaha would later leave the pitch in anger.

Maupay gave an interview to Sky Sports after the game.

Thierry Henry was working as a pundit and he wanted to know what happened between him and Zaha.

Maupay was more than happy to give his side of the story.

He explained: "Football is nothing without fans and without some involvement between players. It's a derby. Everyone wanted to win. The atmosphere was really tough for us.

"At the end I scored and looked at Zaha and smiled at him because I saw him celebrating his penalty in the first half. He gave some to our fans.

"I won't say what he said or what I said, but you know how it is between players on the pitch sometimes. You give a bit of banter and that was a good time for me and for us. It was the perfect timing to give him something."

You've got to admire Maupay's dedication to being a wind-up merchant. The 25-year-old's strike was his fourth in six Premier League games this season.

Brighton missed their opportunity to go top of the Premier League table but they will be very happy with their start to the campaign.
