Brighton's Neal Maupay mocked Crystal Palace fans after scoring dramatic equaliser

Neal Maupay winds up Crystal Palace fans after scoring Brighton's equaliser

Neal Maupay’s 95th minute goal salvaged Brighton a point against Crystal Palace in the M23 derby.

Wilfried Zaha’s penalty just before half-time looked like it would be enough to give Palace all three points.

But Maupay had other ideas as he produced a fantastic finish with virtually the last kick of the game.

The Frenchman was sent through on goal after a hopeful ball forward by Joel Veltman.

Maupay still had work to do and he produced a brilliant lob which sailed over Vicente Guaita and into the net.

The Brighton hero then decided to mock the Palace fans after denying them all three points. Watch the goal and his celebration below:

Zaha, despite doing the same celebration to Brighton fans in the first half, was not happy with Maupay.

The Ivorian confronted Maupay as he made his way back to his own half.

Zaha would later leave the pitch in anger.

Maupay gave an interview to Sky Sports after the game.

Thierry Henry was working as a pundit and he wanted to know what happened between him and Zaha.

Maupay was more than happy to give his side of the story.

He explained: “Football is nothing without fans and without some involvement between players. It’s a derby. Everyone wanted to win. The atmosphere was really tough for us.

“At the end I scored and looked at Zaha and smiled at him because I saw him celebrating his penalty in the first half. He gave some to our fans.

“I won’t say what he said or what I said, but you know how it is between players on the pitch sometimes. You give a bit of banter and that was a good time for me and for us. It was the perfect timing to give him something.”

You’ve got to admire Maupay’s dedication to being a wind-up merchant. The 25-year-old’s strike was his fourth in six Premier League games this season.

Brighton missed their opportunity to go top of the Premier League table but they will be very happy with their start to the campaign.
