The Europa Conference League is the least of Nuno Espirito Santo's worries at Tottenham at present, but Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge reckons that the competition could end up benefitting the likes of Joe Rodon and Ryan Sessegnon.

How have Rodon and Sessegnon fared this season?

In short, it's been a familiar story for the duo since they made their moves from Championship sides Fulham and Swansea respectively.

Sessegnon's only two appearances this season actually came in Europe when he started both legs of the play-off against Pacos de Ferreira. However, he failed to impress in either of those games and is yet to feature in the Premier League this season.

To add to the 21-year-old's frustrations since making the move across London, he's once again out injured and is missing the chance of gaining valuable minutes in the group stages of the Conference League.

Rodon is making the most of his opportunity in Europe, though. Injuries kept him out of the opening few weeks of the season, but he did himself justice as a substitute against Crystal Palace and then in Spurs' group stage opener against Rennes earlier this month.

The Welshman didn't play a minute in the defeats to Chelsea and Arsenal but is likely to start against Mura at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday, and with Santo's team at sixes and sevens defensively in recent weeks, who knows where a good performance could take him.

What did Bridge say about the Conference League?

When asked his thoughts on the inaugural competition, he told GIVEMESPORT: "Looking at a positive, it could be a great competition for the likes of Ryan Sessegnon, Gollini, it could actually work out well. Joe Rodon could end up captaining the side."

How seriously are Spurs going to take the Conference League?

Santo's team selection in their 2-2 draw with Rennes would suggest that the competition is going to hold some significance to Spurs' season.

But whether the strength of his starting XI in France was down to injuries, their need for some confidence or whether he's desperate to win a trophy – albeit a third rate one – remains to be seen.
