Juventus vs Chelsea: "A big miss" for Blues as Tuchel confirms Champions League setback

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel looking frustrated

Journalist Paul Brown believes that Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount not being available for tomorrow night's clash with Juventus is a major blow for the Champions League holders.

What's the latest news involving Mason Mount?

Mount was forced to sit out Chelsea's home game against Manchester City on Saturday after picking up a knock in midweek in the side's Carabao Cup win over Aston Villa.

Thomas Tuchel described the problem initially as a "minor injury", offering hope that the 22-year-old would return to the squad for the Blues' visit to Turin.

However, the Chelsea boss has since confirmed that Mount is still not fit enough to feature, meaning that he will have to watch from home as the defending champions try to make it two wins from two in Europe this season.

What did Brown say about Mount?

Brown feels that Mount being sidelined is a major setback for Chelsea as he rates the attacking midfielder very highly.

Commenting on the news that Mount is still injured, he told GIVEMESPORT: “He’ll be a big miss, and I think he’s Chelsea’s most important player by a mile.”

Is Mount Chelsea's most important player?

Chelsea have been almost flawless in 2021, winning Europe's biggest club competition back in May, and they now look to be genuine Premier League title contenders under Tuchel this season. In order to get into this position, a number of players have stepped up in recent months, but there is certainly an argument that Mount has been the main contributor to their success.

In the big Champions League games last term, he made his mark, netting in the quarter-finals and the semi-finals before setting up the winner in the final against Manchester City. His form in the Premier League was also outstanding - only five players in the division received a higher average WhoScored match rating than him across the campaign. His consistent displays led to him winning Chelsea's Player of the Year award earlier this year.

Did Timo Werner score on his Premier League debut for Chelsea?

It is fair to say that he has started this season slightly off the pace, having registered just one goal involvement in seven appearances in all competitions. Furthermore, Chelsea went out and signed Romelu Lukaku last month, and he has hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge, scoring four goals in seven matches.

However, looking back across the last 12 months, Mount has been a constant shining light for Chelsea, and there can be little doubt that he is someone that Tuchel trusts completely to deliver for him in vital moments.
