Real Madrid 1-2 Sheriff: Spanish side beaten after last-minute stunner in the UCL

The Champions League really can produce some stunning results.

Never was that more on show than when Real Madrid slumped to a staggering loss to UCL newbies Sheriff Tiraspol.

In their first ever away game in Europe’s elite competition, the Moldovan club travelled to one of the continent’s footballing citadels to take on the most successful club the competition has ever seen.

No pressure then, lads.

However, despite the odds being stacked against them, Sheriff would go on to cause one of the biggest group stage upsets ever as they triumphed over the 13-time champions.

Sheriff took the lead in the first half but, when Madrid equalised in the second, it looked like the Spanish giants would go on to claim the win.

Undeterred, Sheriff pushed on, sensing a once in a lifetime opportunity for a smash and grab at the Bernabeu.

And that is exactly what they got thanks to an absolutely stunning 89th minute winner from Sebastien Thill.

It will go down as the greatest night in the history of the Moldovan club but will be one that Real will want to forget very quickly.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Champions League, Lionel Messi finally broke his duck at PSG as he polished off a superb move with a typical curling finish into the top corner.

It proved to be a comfortable night for the French giants as they ran out 2-0 winners over last season’s runners-up, Manchester City.

Mohamed Salah netted yet another brace for the club as he overtook Samuel Eto’o on the list of Africa’s greatest goalscorer’s in the competition.

Roberto Firmino would pop the cherry on the cake with two late goals of his own to cap a fantastic evening at the Estadio do Dragao.
