FIFA fans are already at their wits’ end with the latest instalment in the popular EA franchise - and the game has only been available for a week!
A frustrated gamer shared his experiences with FIFA 22 through a clip posted to his Twitter account, and it’s definitely not an appealing advert.
The video shows his team attempting to avoid danger by the defender aiming to head the ball back to his goalkeeper, before both the defender and ‘keeper disappear into thin air, one after the other.
The opposing team’s forward Wilfried Zaha then takes the opportunity, having just seen the two players vanish, and runs forward into the box, slotting the ball into an empty net.
And as expected, the keeper-less team’s defenders threw their arms up in despair following the goal, though, they shouldn’t blame themselves - the right-back was nowhere to be seen. Quite literally.
@RonTheDon001 captioned his tweet: “How is anything like this acceptable in a game that comes out using the same engine, with minor changes, every single year?
“I’d love if EA had some proper competition or took two years to build a game with some soul in it.”
Over the past few years, EA has faced an abundance of criticism over the development of the FIFA games, as well as being the reason behind so many broken controllers, with fans adamant there is less effort with advancing the game than there was in older versions.
And as stated in the tweet, there really isn’t any competition around to challenge the football video game market.
eFootball (formerly Pro Evolution Soccer) is the closest in terms of popularity, yet FIFA still undoubtedly dominates the sales each year; last year’s PES sold over 111 million copies by December 2020, whereas FIFA raked in 325 million units by February 2021.
