Karim Benzema was on the scoresheet once again for Real Madrid on Tuesday evening.

The Frenchman notched from the penalty spot as the Spanish giants succumbed to a shock 2-1 defeat to Sheriff Tiraspol.

That was his ninth goal of the season.

It was also his 72nd goal in Champions League history. What makes Benzema's tally so impressive that his strike against the Moldovan outfit was his first from the penalty spot in the competition.

Benzema is now the fourth greatest goalscorer in Champions League history after leapfrogging Raul.

The Frenchman is still going strong at 33 years old and is likely to add to his tally even further.

The three players he's currently behind, though, are also still doing some superhuman things.

Lewandowski is a legitimate Ballon d'Or contender having been ridiculous for Bayern Munich.

The duo are fairly close, but it's Messi and Ronaldo who are way out in front.

Ranking football's ultimate GOATS on The Football Terrace! Messi, Ronaldo, Zidane, R9... Who is the greatest of all time?!

Ronaldo leads the way with 135 goals, 14 clear of eternal rival Messi.

Both still seem to be scoring goals at will despite being 36 and 34 respectively.

The Argentine is two years younger than Ronaldo but whether he reaches his mark remains to be seen.

One thing can be said for certain: Ronaldo and Messi are going to be sitting atop the Champions League goalscoring charts for many, many years.
