Newcastle are reportedly keeping tabs on Coventry defender Cyrus Christie.

The 19-year-old has made 12 appearances for the Sky Blues this season and is also alleged to be attracting interest from Stoke.

According to The Mirror, Newcastle could take advantage of Coventry's financial woes and make an attempt to bring Christie to St James' Park in January.

Despite Newcastle's impressive start to the Barclays Premier League campaign, Alan Pardew is expected to invest in his squad in the New Year.

Although the Toon boss is said to be pursuing Christie, Pardew is still prioritising the acquisition of another striker in the winter transfer window.

Current front duo Demba Ba and Leon Best have both been in fine form this term, but Pardew is keen to bring in a long-term replacement for Andy Carroll.

Pardew was left infuriated in the summer when the Newcastle board failed to land him a high-profile goalscorer, despite earmarking numerous potential targets.
