LA Galaxy president Tom Payne says he can understand why David Beckham would want to join Tottenham.

The 36-year-old is nearing the end of his five-year contract at the Home Depot Center and has been tipped to return to European football in the New Year.

Paris Saint-Germain are understood to be pursuing Beckham's signature, while he was targeted by Spurs this time last year.

Harry Redknapp had been keen to bring the former England captain to White Hart Lane, but Beckham did nothing more than train for a short time at Spurs Lodge.

The Galaxy, meanwhile, are want to keep Beckham in the MLS and will offer him the chance to extend his stay with the franchise.

However, Payne can see why Beckham would want to sign for Spurs if Redknapp came calling.

“You hear some names of teams being thrown around in England and other places that I just don’t think he’ll end up going to, unless the offer was just so crazy," Payne told the Herald Sun.

“When you’re talking Tottenham and those kind of clubs, they’re big clubs and Spurs are in London, that’s a different story.

“But we feel pretty good that we’ve got as good a chance as anybody to bring him back."
