Journalist Liam Kennedy doesn't believe that Steve Bruce's future at Newcastle is under threat any time soon.

What did Kennedy say?

Following a winless start to the Premier League season and only three points from a possible 18 available, the Newcastle World writer was asked whether he thinks that a decision could soon be made to sack the 60-year-old.

But Kennedy doesn't believe a decision is imminent despite growing frustrations from many of the St James' Park faithful.

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Do I think Steve Bruce will get the sack in the near future? I don't think he will, I don't think he will at all."

Despite an impressive run from April onwards last season papering over the cracks, Newcastle finished 12th under Bruce, 10 months after they finished once place below.

And whilst he might not be anywhere near as popular as Rafael Benitez, the job he's doing isn't far worse than the Spaniard managed during his two seasons when Newcastle were in the Premier League.

For a club like Newcastle that have finished in the top-half three times in the last 15 years, coming 12th and 13th isn't bad going by recent standards.

But there are other reasons as to why Bruce isn't winning a popularity contest as St James' Park any time soon. His Sunderland connections don't do him any favours, whilst his football is sometimes drab at best.

Are Newcastle likely to sack Bruce?

Despite their winless start to the Premier League season, it doesn't appear likely that owner Mike Ashley will pull the trigger just yet.

Whilst the Magpies are yet to taste victory this term, they're not in the relegation-zone, and a second-half capitulation at Manchester United aside, there have been positive signs at both ends of the pitch in recent weeks.

Newcastle clearly haven't performed well enough, but Bruce is on the verge of having some of his key players back available, including the key figure of Callum Wilson, which should help improve results in the coming weeks and then inevitably release some of the pressure on Bruce's shoulders.
