Manchester United's 2021/22 Champions League campaign is now up and running.

After a shock 2-1 defeat in their first European match of the season versus Young Boys, the Red Devils bounced back against Villarreal on Wednesday evening.

Despite turning in a fairly sub-par team performance, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men secured a 2-1 victory thanks to a brilliant 95th-minute goal from Cristiano Ronaldo.

That strike was the Portuguese superstar's 136th in Champions League action, a record that defies description.

All in all, it was a pretty good night to be associated with Manchester United Football Club.

Well, unless your name is Donny van de Beek...

Once again, the Dutch midfielder was an unused substitute, with Fred getting the nod to come off the bench in the latter stages of the game at his expense.

Unsurprisingly, Van de Beek wasn't particularly happy about that and it seems he made his frustration clear for all to see.

According to MEN's Samuel Luckhurst, the former Ajax man walked back from his warm-up on the touchline and threw his bib on the floor.

That was far from it, though. Footage of an evidently angry Van de Beek in the United dugout just as Fred was about to come on has gone viral on social media.

Take a look at the footage here...

Famous United fan Mark Goldbridge tweeted in response: "Donny chucking his chewing gum on the floor next to Phelan as Fred comes on. Poor lad. Don't blame him."

At this point, the best thing for both Van de Beek and United would be for the player to join another club in the January transfer window.

It's clear that Solskjaer does not - and probably never will - rate the 24-year-old highly enough to afford him regular first-team minutes.

Bruno Fernandes' presence in the team doesn't exactly help matters either, as the Portuguese occupies Van de Beek's favourite position in United's first-choice XI.
