Old Trafford was absolutely bouncing on Tuesday night as Manchester United clinched a last-gasp win over Villareal.

It was a far cry from the nerves and tense scenes that had engulfed the famous old stadium in the first half, with United giving away a glut of chances and struggling to find their feet in the game.

Things would only get worse in the second stanza with Villareal taking a deserved lead through Paco Alcacer as the Spaniards finally found a way past David De Gea.

However, United simply weren't for being beaten and, after Alex Telles rifled a sublime volley into the corner from distance, the game was their's for the taking.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rung the changes late on as he went in search of a winner, throwing Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard into the fray.

The pair proved to be the ideal tonic for United as they took the game by the scruff of the neck and added some much-needed impetus.

Cavani roused the nervous crowd within seconds of coming on as he proved yet again why he holds a special place in the hearts of United fans.

After a United move seemingly broke down, Cavani clicked into gear to hunt down a ball that looked to be rolling harmlessly out of play.

Cavani came from absolutely nowhere, gobbling up the metres at a frightening rate to apply some unexpected pressure on the Villareal defence.

You can see the moment Cavani turned on the gas in the video below:

Unreal - the man is 34 and still hunting down lost causes like his life depends on it.

United would eventually go on to clinch a dramatic win when none other than Cristiano Ronaldo smashed home from an angle in the final minute of stoppage time.

It sparked incredible scenes inside the Theatre of Dreams as the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Usain Bolt revelled in the frenzied celebrations.

While he might not have played a direct part in the goal, there can be no doubting that Cavani's injection of life into the game proved to be a massive turning point for the Red Devils.
