Emma Hayes saw the funny side of the Women’s FA Cup draw last night as her Chelsea side were drawn against Manchester City in the semi-finals.Chelsea breezed past Birmingham 4-0 yesterday to make it to the final four. Fran Kirby notched a double, while Sam Kerr and Pernille Harder also found the back of the net to seal victory.Hayes made eight changes from the side which thrashed Man United 6-1 in the Women’s Super League at the weekend, but the Blues’ second-string side appeared toothless early on.The reinforcements were summoned in the second half and from then onwards the two time FA Cup champions looked comfortable, with Kirby scoring both her goals within six minutes of coming on as a substitute.City, meanwhile, also eased through their quarter-final with an emphatic 6-0 win over Leicester City.ENTER GIVEAWAYENTER GIVEAWAYThe home side were forced to contend with a concerning number of injuries in the build-up to the game and only named four substitutes for last night’s fixture.Fatigue was evident in the first half, but the second 45 minutes saw a re-invigorated City side spring to life.New summer signing Khadija Shaw scored a hat-trick, while Vicky Losada, Alex Greenwood and Filippa Angeldahl added further goals. It was an important win for Gareth Taylor’s side, who have lost their last two WSL games, including a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Arsenal last weekend.Their reward for this victory is a semi-final against rivals Chelsea –– something Hayes appeared to find amusing.Chelsea WomenSpeaking in her post-match press conference, she joked: “Have we got Manchester City again? Who draws it? Arsenal?”After being informed it was former Gunners legend Kelly Smith who made the draw, Hayes remarked: “Ah well there you go.” Indeed, Chelsea do have a history of meeting the Citizens in the FA Cup recently. The two sides faced off in the semi-finals in both 2018 and 2019 –– winning one game apiece.

It’s City who have the better record in the cup of late though, having won the trophy two years in a row.

While Hayes clearly found it funny that her side had been drawn against Taylor’s team once again, she did go on to stress she doesn’t mind who Chelsea play and is just looking forward to the game:

“We’re in the semi-finals. I can’t wait.”

The Blues will face City on 31st October, for a chance to meet either Arsenal or Brighton in this year’s final.
