West Ham United transfer target Mohamed Bayo is a "classic number 9" who would provide David Moyes with a profitable striking option, according to Get French Football News journalist Adam White.

What's the latest news involving Bayo?

Although the transfer window has been shut for more than a month now, West Ham have not stopped in their search for reinforcements and are pursuing Clermont striker Bayo.

The 23-year-old has caught the eye after making an impressive start to the new campaign, scoring four goals and contributing a further two assists in seven Ligue One outings.

Bayo has been able to build on the stunning form he displayed last term, when he found the back of the net 22 times and registered seven assists in 38 Ligue Two appearances.

The two-cap Guinea international's goalscoring pedigree played a key role in Clermont clinching promotion to the French top flight, allowing him to feature in Ligue One for the first time in his burgeoning career.

But West Ham could face competition for Bayo's signature when the transfer window reopens in January as French media outlet L'Equipe, via Get French Football News, reports Bordeaux tabled a bid for the striker in the summer.

What has Adam White said about Bayo?

White believes West Ham would be making a shrewd signing if they manage to prise Bayo away from Clermont.

The Ligue One expert claims one of Bayo's leading attributes is his movement and insists the frontman would score plenty of goals in the Premier League.

White told GIVEMESPORT: "He's a classic number 9 who is all about movement and finishing.

"His movement has probably been the best aspect of his game so far this season.

"He's got four goals now in Ligue One and Clermont made a great start to the season. They won the first two games and he was instrumental in that.

"His movement is really intelligent. He is really clever, picks up some great pockets of space in and around the area and his finishing is really good."

Why are West Ham interested in Bayo?

The Hammers will be put through their paces this season as, having recorded a club record Premier League points tally last term, they find themselves in the Europa League.

As a result, West Ham will be involved in more matches and yet Moyes still has just one senior striker, in the form of Michail Antonio.

Although Antonio has been in stunning form, scoring five goals in as many Premier League appearances so far this season, last month's sending off against Southampton showed West Ham need another option in attack.

The Hammers suffered a narrow defeat to Manchester United while Antonio served his one-match suspension, with Moyes forced to deploy a false nine.
