Michael Bridge reckons that Joachim Andersen and Marc Guehi could be Crystal Palace's centre-back pairing for many years to come.

How have Andersen and Guehi performed this season?

Following the departures of Scott Dann, Gary Cahill and Mamadou Sakho, the pair were tasked with replacing three high-profile and experienced defenders having been signed from Chelsea and Lyon by Dougie Freedman for a combined total of £36.75m.

For Guehi, it was his first taste of Premier League football having made just two Carabao Cup appearances during his three seasons at Chelsea in the first-team.

However, the 21-year-old has taken to the task like a duck to water, playing every minute in the league this season. His WhoScored rating of 6.50 is a disappointing one, although that's mainly down to the defeats at Chelsea and Liverpool.

But Guehi showed his class against Tottenham and then Brighton on Monday, and has an impressive pass success rate of 87.8 percent, which is the fourth best in the Palace squad, and a huge reason as to why Patrick Vieira would have been keen on bringing him to Selhurst Park.

Meanwhile Andersen has continued where he left off for Fulham last season and quickly formed a great partnership and understanding with the youngster.

The pair have a combined age of just 46, with the Dane four years older than his centre-back partner.

With that in mind, Bridge reckons that the duo could be at the heart of the Eagles defence for several years.

What did Bridge say?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "They've got a good defence, Andersen from Lyon and Guehi from Chelsea. That could be their back two for a number of years."

How important are Guehi and Andersen?

All successful teams need a solid and reliable pairing at the back. And although Palace do have a number of talented attacking players, albeit they're not all available, they've only scored six goals in their first six Premier League matches.

They've only kept two clean sheets across those six games, but with their forward players not yet firing on all cylinders, the form of Andersen and Guehi is going to be crucial to Palace picking up points and staying away from relegation.

When the likes of Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze are fit, Palace might not be as reliant on Andersen and Guehi, but for now, their importance cannot be overlooked.
