There was crowd trouble between the two sets of fans.
Flares were thrown along with other objects as riot police had to be called into the stands to quell the trouble.
The clashes were so extreme that the game was temporarily suspended for nine minutes at the end of the first half.
It wasn't just the supporters inside the Stade Velodrome that clashed; there were also some tense moments between the players.
Patrick van Aanholt and Matteo Guendouzi were two players that came to blows.
The Frenchman, who is on loan from Arsenal, was given a penalty in the 75th minute after a challenge from the Dutchman.

VAR looked at the incident and decided to overturn the decision.
The two players then got up-and-personal and exchanged a few words.
Van Aanholt then decided to mock his opponent on Twitter after the game.
Accompanied with a GIF of Marouane Fellaini pulling Guendouzi's hair, the Dutchman wrote: "Running your mouth after VAR proved you wrong... likkleman needs to relax before I snatch that wig off your head.
"Well done to my lions for a well earned point on the roads."
Fair to say the two aren't the bets of friends...
They weren't the only two players that clashed during the game.

William Saliba and Mbaye Diagne also came to blows in the final minute, which sparked a mass brawl.
Guendouzi couldn't help getting involved.
Galatasaray welcome Marseille to Turkey on November 25.
