Journalist Luke Hatfield has revealed that some of Wolves' supporters have called for Conor Coady to be dropped from the side's starting line-up.

How has Coady performed this season?

Coady has established himself as a popular member of the Wolves squad since joining the club six years ago from Huddersfield, and his performances have seen him earn six caps at international level for England.

The Wolves captain has had some testing moments this season, though, as the team failed to keep a clean sheet in their opening three league matches, losing all of those fixtures 1-0.

The side have since bounced back, winning their last two matches on the road against Watford and Southampton, while managing to keep the ball out of their net in both contests.

Coady has received an average game rating of 6.63 from WhoScored this term, which sees him rank ninth amongst his teammates.

What has Hatfield said about Coady?

Despite there being signs that Wolves are starting to get back on track in recent weeks, Hatfield has claimed that some of the team's supporters have been unimpressed by Coady's displays and feel that the 28-year-old, who Transfermarkt value at £22.5m, should be left out by manager Bruno Lage.

When asked if there are concerns about Wolves' defending at the moment, Hatfield told GIVEMESPORT: “There are a couple of question marks. You’ve seen calls for maybe Conor Coady to get dropped from some of the fan base.”

Should Coady be dropped?

Coady's WhoScored match ratings suggest that he has hardly been at the top of his game in the opening weeks of the season, and he can perhaps consider himself a little fortunate to have been named in Gareth Southgate's latest England squad yesterday.

Still, at a time when Wolves are still trying to find their feet under a new manager in Lage, it would be unwise to remove the experienced defender from the starting line-up.

It should also be pointed out that the side's main problem seems to be at the other end of the pitch as they have only scored three goals this season - only Norwich have netted on fewer occasions (2) in the top-flight.

Meanwhile, only the current top three have conceded fewer goals, so Wolves must be doing something right at the back.

Coady needs to do better if Wolves are going to build on their 13th-place finish from last year, but he has been an excellent servant for the club over the years. He has missed just one Premier League game since they secured promotion back in 2018, and deserves time to turn his performances around over the next few weeks before Lage even thinks about replacing him with someone else.
