Aston Villa head to Tottenham Hotspur having sent out "a big statement" by overcoming Manchester United last weekend, according to Birmingham Live journalist Ashley Preece.

What's the latest news involving Villa?

Dean Smith's side will make the trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday having notched back-to-back Premier League victories.

Villa followed up their 3-0 home success against Everton by recording a 1-0 triumph over Manchester United.

Kortney Hause's late header proved to be the winner as Bruno Fernandes blasted a stoppage time penalty over the crossbar and, as a result, Villa registered their first win at Old Trafford for 12 years

Following the encounter, Villa midfielder John McGinn claimed the victory has "set a marker down for this season".

They have now turned their attention towards Spurs, who go into this weekend's clash having suffered three consecutive Premier League defeats after initially notching a 100 per cent winning start.

What has Ashley Preece said about Villa ahead of the trip to Spurs?

Preece believes Villa's win at Old Trafford proved they are able to overcome the Premier League's giants in their own backyard and has challenged Smith's side to follow it up by clinching another three points in north London this weekend.

The journalist feels overcoming Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side has thrown down the gauntlet.

Preece told GIVEMESPORT: "I think the result against Manchester United sends out a big statement and it's about laying down a marker now.

"McGinn said that they're laying down that marker and it shows that they can go toe-to-toe with anyone.

"It was really good and a point-proven performance ahead of Spurs, when we'll see what Villa have got again."

What's the latest Villa team news?

Central defender Hause is expected to keep his spot in Smith's starting line-up after bagging the late winner at Old Trafford last time out.

It was the 26-year-old's first Premier League start of the campaign as he came into the side at the expense of Axel Tuanzebe, who was unable to feature against his parent club due to being on a season-long loan from Manchester United.

Leon Bailey, who made the move to Villa Park in a £25million switch from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, and Morgan Sanson are sidelined due to injury.

Trezeguet remains a long-term absentee after suffering knee ligament damage in April, while Keinan Davis is nearing a return to action having sustained an injury during pre-season.
