England rise in world rankings

England have risen to seventh in the latest FIFA world rankings after securing qualification for next summer's European Championships.

Portugal have dropped to ninth after salvaging only a play-off place for next summer's tournament in Poland and Ukraine, with Greece now eighth.

Sweden have jumped 11 places to 14th after beating Netherlands, while Demark's win over the Portuguese sees them reach the top 10.


France's draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina, which insured their qualification for Euro 2012, sees them drop to 15th.

Republic of Ireland are now 25th following their play-off spot confirmation, Wales are 45th after rising 45 places after their win over Bulgaria, Scotland are 51st but manager-less Northern Ireland have slipped to 84th.

Spain's win over the Scot has increased the gap at the top of the rankings from Netherlands, who have Germany, Uruguay and Brazil all on their tail in the race for second.
