The greatest tackle in Premier League history? Nemanja Vidic vs Kyle Walker

There was only one winner...

Nemanja Vidic is without question one of the greatest defenders to have graced the Premier League.

The Serbian colossus was an absolute rock at the back for Manchester United and was part of a formidable centre-back partnership alongside Rio Ferdinand.

Vidic spent eight years at Old Trafford after signing from Spartak Moscow in 2006 and in that time, he won five Premier League titles, three FA Cups and the Champions League.

The no-nonsense defender was named in the PFA Team of the Year on four separate occasions and also won the Premier League Player of the Season award twice.

Not a bad collection of honours, is it?

Vidic is also the proud owner of one of the most iconic tackles in Premier League history.

The challenge in question came way back in 2013 and the man on the receiving end of it was Kyle Walker, who was representing Tottenham Hotspur at the time.

Both players charged towards a loose ball near the edge of the penalty area and it was Vidic who managed to reach it first.

The United legend’s momentum then resulted in Walker being sent tumbling into the air, while the ball flew in the opposite direction.

Wonderful, simply wonderful.

Back in 2016, Vidic was actually asked to give his own opinion on the tackle by a fan and the Serbian – like the rest of us – enjoyed it immensely.

“I don’t remember all of my tackles – I was sometimes playing with concussion – but I remember that one,” Vidic replied, per FourFourTwo.

“Kyle went honestly for the ball and so did I. It’s why I like that challenge: it doesn’t matter who won; what mattered is that we both went for the ball. I love that about English football and hope it never changes.”
