Man Utd's Jadon Sancho produced promising Premier League highlights during Everton draw

Jadon Sancho is already under pressure at Manchester United.

Such is the cruel and fast-paced world of Premier League, it’s a crushing inevitability that so many fans are already branding Sancho as a ‘flop’ just a few games into his return to English football.

Having arrived for an eye-watering £73 million this summer, Sancho is still awaiting his first goal contribution for the Red Devils and has started just two of his six Premier League outings so far.

For a player that surpassed both 15 goals and 15 assists for Borussia Dortmund across 2019/20, it’s certainly underwhelming, but we all need to zoom out and remember the context for a second.

While it might feel as though Sancho has been one of Europe’s finest wingers for forever and a day, it’s easy to forget that the England international is still only 21 years old.

Marry that to the fact that Sancho had played the entirety of his professional career in the Bundesliga up until this summer and it’s only natural that there has been a transitionary phase.

Be patient with Sancho

Now, don’t get it twisted, we’re more than aware that a great number of fans are on the same wavelength, but it’s sometimes difficult to see that through all the hyperbole and exaggerations.

But fear not, Sancho fans, because the doubters were given their clearest indication yet that the former Dortmund man is ready to take the Premier League by storm on Saturday afternoon.

Although the 1-1 Everton draw was ultimately a disappointing affair for United, there were plenty of positives to take from Sancho’s cameo once he replaced Anthony Martial in the 57th minute.

Sancho’s highlights vs Everton

According to SofaScore, Sancho played two key passes, completed 90% of his passes overall, attempted five dribbles, posted a shot on target and made one interception and tackle.

However, there can be no better demonstration of the potential and promise in Sancho’s display than the eye test because his highlights against Everton are full of energy and ambition.

A flop already? No chance

Now, look, we’re not sitting here proclaiming that Sancho was the second coming of Lionel Messi because as you can see, there were still a few instances where he ran down a blind alley.

You’ve got to credit Sancho for having the invention and energy to take on defenders with such regularity, but there’s no denying that it’s been a largely ineffective tactic so far this season.

But park that thought for a second because Sancho’s highlights show that his game is about much more than dribbling with sharp passes, intelligent movement and fantastic interplay throughout.

His slipped through-ball to Cristiano Ronaldo, in particular, was more than deserving of a maiden Premier League assist because the vision and weighting of the pass was absolutely spot on.

So, sure, we’ll happily admit that Sancho still hasn’t shown his best football at United, but let’s put a stop to all the ‘flop’ accusations because he’s really starting to show potential in abundance.
