Following their 1-1 draw with Everton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, Manchester United have now won just two out of their last six games in all competitions.

Given the substantial investment made by the club over the summer to add the likes of Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo to an already impressive squad, that is not the kind of form expected from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side this term.

The dismal run of results has already led to calls for the Norwegian to be relieved of his duties from some fans. The Red Devils performance against the Toffees did nothing to help Solskjaer's reputation, either.

Things were looking bright for United at half-time, as they sought to bounce back from last weekend's shock defeat to Aston Villa. Anthony Martial, preferred in the starting line-up to a rested Ronaldo, gave the home side the lead just before the break.

That advantage, though, was snatched away approaching the mid-way point of the second period when Andros Townsend capped off a swift Everton counter attack from a United corner to level the match.

For former United man Owen Hargreaves, that is a scenario from which Solksjaer's side simply should never have conceded.

In the build-up to the goal, Brazilian midfielder Fred had two opportunities to stop Demarai Gray's forward progress, but took neither - something Hargreaves insists would never have been tolerated during his time at Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson.

"Never ever, not in a million years [should that goal be allowed to happen]," Hargreaves told Premier League Productions following the match, per The Metro.

"That’s what you get paid for, that’s why you’re there, that’s your job to stop that goal. I would’ve taken that personally.

"It can’t happen. Sir Alex wouldn’t forgive you for that, you wouldn’t have played for a month, seriously...He has to win those tackles. And if he loses it, you foul him, you bring him down.

"You’ve got to win that. You cannot get bumped off the ball by Demarai Gray and if he does, you foul him.

"United don’t have control of games, it’s their corner, how can a goal like that happen?

Can you answer these 12 questions about Cristiano Ronaldo's first spell at Manchester United?

"I know Harry Maguire is missing and they miss his leadership but if you’re going to play two defensive midfielders in there – McTominay and Fred – that goal can’t happen."

Of course, after being pegged back, United still had the better part of half an hour to find a winner. Even with Ronaldo on the field for much of the second half, though, the 13-time Premier League champions were unable to add to their tally on the afternoon.

Only taking a point from the fixture represents a major disappointment for United. Solskjaer, however, isn't known for dropping players he has shown faith in for too long. Fred will likely retain his place in United's line-up after the upcoming international break - and seemingly should be glad that Ferguson is no longer at the helm at the Theatre of Dreams.
