Tottenham Hotspur may be forced into a rethink over summer signing Pape Matar Sarr, according to Get French Football News journalist Adam White.

What's the latest news involving Sarr?

Nuno Espirito Santo was keen to bolster his squad after being appointed as Jose Mourinho's eventual successor in June.

With the summer transfer deadline looming, Spurs signed Sarr from French club Metz for a fee in the region of £14.6million plus add-ons before immediately loaning the teenager back to his previous employers.

Sarr caught the north Londoners' attention after breaking onto the scene in Ligue One last season, making 22 appearances and scoring three goals from his defensive midfield role in France's top tier.

But the 19-year-old has found himself in more advanced positions since committing his long-term future to Spurs, with Sarr being deployed on the wing and as an attacking midfielder regularly over the course of his first eight outings back on loan with Metz.

Sarr has also shown further signs of developing his game after collecting his third cap for Senegal in the recent international break.

What has Adam White said about Sarr?

White believes Spurs allowed Sarr to make an immediate return to familiar surroundings as his first-team opportunities at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would have been limited this season.

Nuno currently has six central midfielders - in the form of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Dele Alli, Oliver Skipp, Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Winks and Giovani Lo Celso - to select from.

White feels Spurs may look at more options for Sarr next summer, with another loan potentially on the cards if he is unlikely to force his way into Nuno's immediate plans.

The journalist told GIVEMESPORT: "The reason he has been loaned back to Metz is because he needs game time at this stage of his career.

"He needs to develop in the right environment and it was unlikely Spurs were going to provide that.

"There's probably a reassessment to be done there, but I honestly don't think he'd be first choice in that midfield even with their current form."

Would Sarr get into Spurs' midfield at the moment?

Spurs are out of form and were condemned to their third Premier League defeat in succession by arch-rivals Arsenal last weekend, so Sarr may have stood a chance of staking a claim were he currently at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The North London derby loss led to Nuno being installed as the third favourite to become the first top flight managerial casualty of the season.

Nuno even publicly blasted his players and accused them of not following the game plan he had put in place for the clash with Arsenal, while Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher was critical of Spurs' midfield following the defeat.
